2-day course
Pistol and carbine rifle proficiencies, and
Defensive Tactics / Subject control active counter measures.
WHO – In-service trainers, general patrol officers only.
(Municipal, Provincial, Federal police agencies welcome).
WHAT – Pistol, carbine rifle, IRD training course.
WHERE – Niagara Region. Exact location(s) – TBD.
WHEN – Wednesday / Thursday May 28 / 29, 2025. 0830 to 1600.
WHY – To enhance skills and development with firearms proficiencies and Defensive Tactics / Combatives.
Participants will require:
Pistol / duty belt + minimum 3 x magazines.
Carbine rifle / sling + minimum 3 x magazines.
Soft body armour / carbine magazine carrier.
Eye and ear protection / range kit.
Hand-held white light.
Water / fuel as required.
Baseball hat.
Extra layer for comfort as necessary.
Light pair of shooting gloves.
*Weapon mounted white light – Most optimal but not required.
Hand-held white light – As a minimum.
Minimum round count:
Pistol – 500 x rounds live – Ball / Frangible ammunition.
Carbine – 700 x rounds live – Ball / Frangible ammunition.
Direct Action will provide:
4 x Direct Action hand-selected and vetted professional instructors:
(TBC – 1 x Active RCMP officer, 1 x former RCMP officer, 1 x former JTF2 Assaulter, 1 x Active Durham regional officer, 1 x former York regional officer).
Coaching / instruction / conduct & safety. Range kit / training aids as necessary.
Participants will receive:
Day 1 – On the Range;
Pistol and Carbine rifle integration. Fundamentals of effective and safe firearms handling.
Skill development; Malfunction drills, off-shoulder / single hand shooting, shooting on the move, use of barricade / hard cover options, positional shooting concepts and options, low light shoot.
Day 2 – DT training day;
Subject control, active counter measures; Strikes and counter striking. Initial officer contact, supporting officer roles and options. 1-officer & 2-officer take-downs. Non-compliant subject cuffing options.
Participants will receive a DA certification of completion at the end of Day 2.
