WHAT – Defensive tactics instructor certification course.
WHERE – 370 Danforth Ave – DA training facility. (tbc)
WHEN – 24-28 March, 2025. 8:30am to 4:30pm daily.
WHY – To develop instructor’s ability to deliver the DA training philosophy and material. To provide an opportunity to enhance tactical considerations for solving problems with respect to legal authorities. The integration of kit and equipment. Working through kit-related mobility restriction – Principle and concept based approach while operating in a team dynamic.
Topics to cover:
– Presentation on training approach and instructional techniques,
– DA training philosophy and why,
– Striking, Clinch and Ground-based fighting – application and options,
– Edge weapons – use and active counter measures,
– Long gun and pistol retention drills,
– Subject control and take-down defences,
– Ground to feet recovery with and without the presence of kit and equipment,
– Team-fighting approach and concepts,
– Scenario-based development and use of live role players,
– Progressive incorporation of kit and equipment,
– Non-lethal Simuniton/UTMs training,

Monday-Wednesday will be at DA training facility – 379 Danforth Ave., Westboro. (tbc)
Thursday will be in a CQB environment (off-site location TBC – Ottawa).
Friday will be at DA training facility – 379 Danforth Ave., Westboro. (tbc)
Participants will require:
– Gun belt, plate carrier or body armour, helmet, light pair of shooting gloves, eye protection,
– Pistol and long gun equipped with a sling,
– Simuniton / UTMs kits for both pistol and carbine rifle,
– INERT guns – training blue / red guns, UoF training tools,
– Duty pants and t-shirts for on the mat, long sleeve shirt for day in the CQB,
– Muay Thai shinpads, 16oz boxing gloves,
– Wrestling boots, mouthpiece and jock / cup,
– Water bottle, notepad and pen.
* Please notify DA if you require any specific kit or equipment.
DA will provide Simunition FX / non-lethal marking ammunition for this training.
Recommended Pre-requisites:
Participants are recommended to have a minimum of 3 years of active duty experience.
UoF Instructor(s), participants with minimum of 2 year experience in at least one of the following; Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, Muay Thai, Boxing, Krav Maga, Judo. Comfortable level of firearms safety and handling – Pistol and Carbine rifle. Physically fit & mentally healthy. Ability to run 2.5 Kms in 16:00 or less.
In order to ensure quality control with an adequate amount of time for individual feedback, the course load is set at;
Maximum of 8 participants.
